The true story of the experiences of pianist Vladisla Spielmann in Warsaw during the Nazi occupation. When he saw the Jews of the city pushing themselves into a ghetto, he saw Spielman playing in a cafe; When his family was deported in 1942, he stayed behind, worked for a while as a mercenary, and eventually hid in the ruins of a war-torn city.
In September 1939, the Nazis bombed the station when Polish-Jewish pianist Vladivostok Zeppelman was playing live on the radio in Warsaw when Germany invaded Poland. In anticipation of a quick victory, Sillman enjoyed home with his family when he learned that Britain and France had declared war on Germany. But the promised help did not come. The war lasted a month, as German and Soviet forces simultaneously attacked Poland on different fronts. Warsaw becomes part of the Nazi-controlled public government. Jews are soon barred from working or doing their own business, and they are made to wear the blue star of David Armand.
By November 1940, Szizlman and his family were forced to move out of their homes into the crowded Warsaw ghetto, where conditions were deteriorating. People are starving, guards are cruel, hungry children are left on the streets. On one occasion, Esslebamins witnessed the murder of an entire family in an apartment on SS Street during a siege.
On August 16, 1942, Spiralman and his family were taken to a camp to evacuate Treblinka as part of Operation Reed. But a friend in the Jewish ghetto police spotted Vladislav in The Hasklock plot and separated him from his family. He becomes a slave laborer and learns of the coming Jewish uprising. He helps resist by smuggling weapons to the ghetto in a place to escape from the suspicious guard. Szicpilman eventually escapes, and disappears with the help of his non-Jewish friend Andrzej Boogie and his wife Jena.
